Chub or carp.
|
Small stream, size 8 on 4lbs bs line on the 10 foot quiver. Slug, paste, anything really. Stealth tactics, 30 mins max in each swim.
Nice little fight from even a two pounder keeping the blighter out of the reeds.
Stick your pellet wagglers up your commercial. Modern fishing is shite.

Mucky.. We used to fish appledore and iden wiv aluminium rods to get the carp out from the weeds, just float fishing for bream on matches.. Always getting smashed on the pole on the lee, grand union (tring, west Drayton and Perivale) great when you land one, but fucks up your swim if you lose it! But, saying that, could go over South Park lake in goodmayes and catch a few on bloodworm in the winter on the pole and a few decent roach. I really should get out fishing again instead of reminsing!

I know that area well, fished Marsworth reguarly as a pup when the small carp first got into the canal from the ressie, they have spread out from then
Yes I hear you on mink, but the otter is a real problem and has done the damage upon the Ouse around Buckingham and the Cherwell for sure
They are an absolute curse

Good luck Blacky, planning a trip back to Berny at Vic Sur Aisne at Easter - the lake is a 'fun puddle' but to be fair, a 20lb sturgeon on a barbel rod takes some handling but the river behind holds lumps across many species that are rarely fished for so that is the target

Love my carp fishing, but also a night or two on the royal military canal at appledore. Good times down there.

I'd sooner catch loads of smaller fish on light tackle than sit about for days on the off chance of a big carp. Having said that I do like a bit of pike fishing.

Tring I meant. I'm not gonna do,the usual Xmas series of matches over puddle dock farm this year. Think I take the kids out and show them the hard way to catch fish, teach them to trot with a stick float. Richmond probably best to break em in, at least they can grab a macdonalds after and a pint or two in the pigeons for me!

Crassus.. Think a lot of people get confused with mink. A lot of them were let out of fur farms by our Eco warrior type and the mink ran riot along the grand Union from berkhamsted to trying for years.

Only time I see a wild otter was down on the Avon at ring wood. I was only about 13 and out with the local club, the guys dumped me in the easy swim by the walkover bridge.. There I was, watching my tip and this otter pops up on the bank right between my legs!! He eyeballed me and I nearly shit myself! He's whiskers almost touched my knees, that's how big it was!! Glad I already had a few chub and dace, didn't get another fucking bite all day long after he slipped back in!

Never seen one at work, just swimming on the Wye years ago, beautiful sight there and then but seen the proceeds of human intervention since.
Dirty bastards are like a fox in a hen house, they rip the throats and leave the rest upon the bank. Goes beyond feeding. Verminous beasts.
Currently laying waste to the stunning Cherwell, all down to the utter fuckwits that insisted upon their reintroduction and at levels and in places that could not support them - now being run over as they migrate to new waters, the Grand Union adjacent to the Cherwell being one.
Ring of Bright Water and fuck all in it.

Perch come and go. One year you have an explosion, catch one every put in, next year they all disappear.. Weird!! Happened on matches around Bourne end and Marlow years ago and an old club lake I belonged to. I remember going to a place called Barton hall, a trout fishery on the kennet but had man made streams coming off it.. It's only open to coarse from Nov til Feb. Had a great day there.. Big roach, grayling and the odd trout.

I know otters have made a big comeback in recent years but what is it with these poxy cormorants? You wouldn't see a cormorant in fresh water where I live twenty years ago and I live on the coast, now they are on most still waters around here, they can devastate stocks of silver fish.
